History & Culture
Founded in 1929 by the Sanderson family in Vancouver, BC – Sanderson Concrete moved to North Vancouver where the company established itself as a manufacturer of sumps, manholes and landscaping products such as patio slabs and small decorative planters.
Svend Arntorp was hired in 1986 to run the company. An engineer, Svend’s experience in the concrete industry helped set the long-term vision for Sanderson Concrete and in 1988, Svend purchased the company and was joined by his son, Jan, in Sales and Estimating.
Through the 1990’s Sanderson Concrete’s landscape division expanded to include bollards, picnic tables, benches and drinking fountains – and a greater focus was placed on custom and architectural precast.
Svend retired in 1994, eventually selling the company to Jan, who remains deeply involved in the company and retains his love for challenging custom projects.
Sanderson Concrete’s expanding landscape and architectural concrete divisions required a move to a larger plant in 1997.
